“Love Lyrics of Bharatendu Harishchandra”-  a music concert by Shubha Mudgal  at CanSupport at Chinmaya Mission, New Delhi on 28 August 2011.

The event is organized by CanSupport, which is a not-for-profit cancer charity that has since 1997 delivered palliative care, to people battling with cancer in Delhi and its neighborhood in India. CanSupport provides all its services free of charge to sick cancer patients and their families.

Bharatendu Harishchandra-A dramatist, poet, actor, singer, philanthropist and visionary, left behind a wealth of literature inspiring not just students of Hindi literature but several musicians as well. For some time now vocalist Shubha Mudgal and Tabla player Dr. Aneesh Pradhan have been exploring these nineteenth century verses and this evening features an exclusive selection of verses written by Bharatendu Harishchandra, composed by Dr. Aneesh Pradhan and Shubha Mudgal.

The variety and range of expression, the diverse dialects and styles employed by Bharatendu Babu, and the inherent musicality in the texts offer a wide range of possibilities for those who relish both poetry and music. It is this passion for the arts that this evening pays tribute to with Shubha Mudgal rendering a selection of Bharatendu Harishchandra’s verses. She will be accompanied by: Dr. Aneesh Pradhan on the Tabla, Shri Sudhir Nayak on the Harmonium and Shri Murad Ali on Sarangi.
